Te Tahawai Marae

Te Tahawai Marae

After we got off the bus at the Marae we walked half way until we got to the college. Then we had to go in our positions. We stopped for a few seconds and then started to walk to the steps  and took off our shoes and walked in the Marae. After that we sat down. The boys sat in front and the girls sat at the back. Joshua K said his speech and Joshua J said his too. Then we  went did the hongi. After the hongi we were asked  to go wash our hands and before eating. We ate biscuits and drank water. We wove to make bags out of papers. The colours that we had were black,  red and white. Brenda the lady from the Marae put handles on our bags and gave them to Mrs Cochrane. Last Friday the whole school went to the Mary Mackillop Center in Mission bay.

When we got there we  lined up to go to their chapel.  We all sat down and Sr. Elizabeth, talked to the whole school. She told us about the old CTK school way back 1954, about 60 years ago. Sr. Elizabeth was the first nun who taught in CTK school. I feel proud of Sr. Elizabeth for serving CTK school for 209 years, and she is still alive. I was born at that time.Screenshot 2014-10-23 at 05.20.36.png

After Sr. Elizabeth talked to us, Fr. Peter said the mass. We all sung songs and we prepared for the mass. It was  a full mass and we celebrated it for an hour. Their windows had words.

After mass we had a chance  to talk to the first teacher at Christ the king. She said that there were only 2 classes at our school and Mary Mackillop added 1 class per year.We did a blessing on all the sisters.

After that we were told to line up and the senior school went up stairs to the history of fame the nuns. They had pictures of our old school and Mary Mackillop. They had dolls of how the nun’s dressed when I wasn't born. They were dressed in  black, brown, red and white. We saw painting’s of our old and the glass had a painting of Mary Mackillop.
